Most of the work of the surveyors is usually done outside their office : during the visits to the yards. To help surveyors gathering data in a way that will be easy to inject back in VeriStar, the application provide a new off-line mode dedicated to surveys at yard.
The principle is to use an HTML form to enter survey's facts just as easily as with an Word document : open a file, enter (type) data and save it back on your computer for further use.
This HTML form will provide an interface (look and feel) quite similar to the real VeriStar on-line application, but it will work without the need of a connection, thus, permitting to work off-line with a simple laptop computer.
The only requirement is to download this off-line form prior to do the visit to the yard : off-line forms are dedicated to a surveyor, a project, and the yard he will visit..
SAY
Access to the project's surveys list, like described in Surveys list.
A link "Download off-line Form for surveys" displays a hidden form to prepare the download :
The yard and the intended date of survey must be provided.
When clicking OK, the dedicated off-line form for the survey at yard will be generated and a download window will open.
The HTML file must
be saved in a dedicated folder in the local file-system. (for example
: C:\SICOL\SURVEYS
)

Once downloaded the HTML forms he needs, the surveyor can take his laptop computer with him in his survey intervention.
Immediately after the visit, he can open his computer, and make use of the downloaded forms to summarize his remarks and comments about the surveys he has made.
The way to do this is pretty straightforward :
Open an explorer
window (for example, click on My Computer on your window's desktop), and
find back the surveys folder by browsing the file system to the correct
location (in our example C:\SICOL\SURVEYS\
):
Double-clicking the desired form (date of survey, yard and project are recalled in the form's name) will open it in the defaults browser's window :
Create surveys and comments
Now, inside this single page, the surveyor has the ability to create multiple surveys (on different items and localisations), and to add comments on each of these surveys.
Add a new survey by clicking on the dedicated Action link. Fill the fi and then click OK.
The Surveys List will update itself (on the left part of the page).
Clicking one of these lines displays the corresponding survey (and its comments).
Return in Edit mode by clicking the Edit link, or by clicking on any entered value.
Add a comment by clicking on the dedicated button and fill its field in a similar way then click OK.
All validations errors (required fields, date formats..) are signaled when the user click OK.
Now, the MOST IMPORTANT THING to do before leaving the form is to SAVE these data (like we have to save a Word document) : This is done by clicking the SAVE button that appears when the some data has been modified.
Now the mission is over and the surveyor is back in his office. He can connect his laptop to the intranet to regain access to VPM.
It is the time to inject the off-line surveys into the system.
To do this, open the off-line form corresponding to the visit made to the yard (see Open the off-line form).
All the surveys will be send at once by clicking on the Send link in the Actions menu.
The surveyor may have to enter his login and password if he wasn't connected, then the off-line data are uploaded into the system, and the surveyor must complete this action by locating into the tree structure the different SAY interventions he has made. This is done by opening the orange tab (similar to the Graphical View tab) and then dragging the off-line surveys over the corresponding SAY interventions located in the tree.
