VeriSTAR New Building is basically a Project management tool where each Project is handled by a Project Manager (Leader) and the actions are identified within a type of Project.
Each project may cover one or more of the 3 following activities:
The following types of projects can be identified:
Ship in Service (NS)
New Construction (NC)
Product Design Review (PDR)
Product Certification (PRC)
Alternative Inspection Scheme (Mode 1)
Drawing (DWG)
A New Construction project (NC) is initiated by a Request For Class (RFC), then goes through a step of Construction, and then is in service. The project ends when the ship is no longer in service.
NS Projects are automatically generated by the system.
From the RFC data, VeriSTAR NB generates:
the project checklists: lists of the interventions to be performed by BV experts to achieve the certification of a unit or an equipment. Each BV activity has its own checklist (list of requested drawings for LPO, of products inspections for BVN, of interventions for SAY).
the project tree: unit structure (system/ product) containing the list of interventions for each activity.
A project is characterized by a number (Project ID), which is the register number for NC and NS projects, and a name (ship's name or a name defining the project).
Each project has a Project Manager (Leader) (also called Project Leader), assigned by the Marine Manager in case of New Construction projects.
Project views
In VeriSTAR New Building, a project can be considered within:
a general project view, providing an overview on the project context;
an activity project view (LPO, BVN, SAY), enabling to perform actions on the project.

As a BV expert, administrative or surveyor, you are more likely to enter a project through the activity view, if you are willing to perform actions on the project..
But if you wish to consult the project overview, click the project ID displayed in the context bar of each screen. The general project view consists in a whole of tabs gathering complete data on the project (tree, drawings, comments, unit data, class data...). The project view is more likely to be used by the Project Manager (Leader), to consult work in progress and perform his due tasks. But it is important for every profile to have access to this general context, in order to better understand the project and workflow.
As a result, VeriSTAR NB navigation system has been made according to the following principle:
From your Desktop:
enter the activity project
view by clicking
;
enter the general project
view by clicking the project ID.
When navigating through the
application within your activity context, a permanent link to the project
general view is displayed in the context bar (see the Navigation
chapter).
When navigating through the general project view, permanent links to the three specific views are displayed in the action bar :
Design Review
(LPO project view)
Product Certification
(BVN project view)
Survey at
yard (SAY project view).
